Please carefully read the following terms and conditions. Your completion of this agreement implies that you have read and accepted these terms and conditions. They were developed to minimize the waiting period for use of the Behavioral Core facilities and to ensure that all users of the Core have equal access.
1. Mice must be transferred to the Behavioral Core holding room 2 weeks before the start of an experiment and transferred out/euthanized within 2 weeks following the date of the last behavioral test. UCSF LARC transfer request and fecal/fur swab samples drop off must be submitted in RIO 10 days prior to the desired transfer date to ensure that the transfer is completed on time (specific instructions will be provided). It is important that animals are allowed to habituate to their new cages and colony room in addition to Core Staff acclimation and handling two weeks prior to the start of the behavioral testing. Failure to transfer your mice on time will result in the delay or cancellation of your project.
2. If you would like to conduct the behavioral testing yourself, you must be properly trained for all desired behavioral tasks. The Behavioral Core Staff must provide the required training.
a) In the event that a fellow lab member has been trained in a specific task or program, it is still necessary for all new Users to receive training from the Behavioral Core Staff. No User-User training is permitted.
b) Except for Behavioral Core equipment, you must provide your own supplies (e.g., videotapes, alcohol wipes, syringes, etc.) or additional charges will be applied for all Core supplies used during completion of the project.
c) All equipment must be kept in good condition and maintained in a clean and working manner according to IACUC standards and the provided instructions.
d) Any damage to equipment or extra cleaning of the room that the Behavioral Core Staff is required to do in order to restore the equipment/room to its original condition will be added to your project costs.
e) If you are unsure about how to clean a specific piece of equipment, the Behavioral Core Staff will show you where to find the necessary supplies or the appropriate techniques.
3) Cancellation Policy: I understand that I will be charged 30% of the original estimate for any cancellations, unless I notify the Core >45 days (Morris water maze or Interactive place avoidance) or >30 days (all other behavioral tests) before the date the services were scheduled to begin.
4) The cost estimate generated for Core services is based on the desired services provided and may increase due to extra services requested such as increased length of behavioral testing, re-analysis of data, special treatments administered to the mice, or due to periodic or unforeseen increases in the Core's recharge rate. I would like all charges to be made to the PO/grant/index number provided below.
5) All behavioral data generated with the help of the Behavioral Core's personnel, resources or equipment must be provided to the Core director upon completion of data analysis for record keeping and database purposes.
6) If the Core Staff will be conducting the behavioral testing, your mice will be assumed under the Behavioral Core’s animal use IACUC protocol. If the testing will be conducted by the User, all behavioral procedures utilized must have prior approval from the UCSF IACUC on the PI’s animal use IACUC protocol. The IACUC protocol number must be provided below as confirmation.
7) If data generated in the Behavioral Core (either by Core Staff or your own staff) are included in presentations or publications, I agree to include the following statement in the acknowledgement section of the presentation/publication:
"Behavioral data were obtained with the help of the Gladstone Institutes’ Behavioral Core."
In addition, I agree to include the Core Director and/or Staff as co-authors if their contributions merit such inclusion based on widely accepted guidelines (http://www.sfn.org/member-center/professional-conduct/guidelines-for-responsible-conduct-regarding-scientific-communication).
